Rahal Letterman Lanigan Scholarship
This scholarship is for members of Ball State’s varsity esports team who will not only compete in conference play, but will also participate in community events to promote the SIM racing series in conjunction with RLL, which is co-owned by television legend and 1969 Ball State graduate David Letterman.
Ball State began its varsity esports program as part of its College of Communication, Information, and Media in January 2021, becoming a founding member of the Esports Collegiate Conference. The University’s Esports Production concentration, under CCIM’s Department of Media, delivers hands-on instruction for students to develop their skills in the field of esports media. Students in the program learn the history of esports, video production, streaming, and live event broadcasting.

A $5,000 scholarship
Criteria
- It is preferred that recipients are available to attend community events to promote the e-racing series and the partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
- Must apply and be accepted as a full-time student to one of Ball State’s undergraduate programs
- Must have competitive experience in any sim or tradition racing league
- Completion of a minimum of 3 invitational tryout practices with current Ball State team
- Each tryout session will be a maximum of 2.5 hours
- May not have been banned, fined, or otherwise removed from competition by league organizers or game developers in the past
- Renewable for 4 years provided the recipient continues to meet the stated criteria

Esports Scholarships
This scholarship is to support out-of-state Ball State Esports athletes.
Award amount
$12,500 renewable for up to 4 years
Criteria
- Out of state applicant (not an Indiana resident)
- Must apply and be accepted as a full-time student to one of Ball State’s undergraduate programs
- Must have competitive experience in one of the following esports titles played at the varsity level*. Currently:
- Valorant
- Overwatch
- League of Legends
- Rocket League
- SIM Racing
- Completion of a minimum of 3 invitational tryout practices with current Ball State team
- Each tryout session will be a maximum of 2.5 hours
- Students accepting the esports scholarship will not be eligible to receive any additional awards from Ball State University
- May not have been banned, fined, or otherwise removed from competition by league organizers or game developers in the past
